Intermittent or erratic volume control. There are two possible repairs that may repair this problem. The following is a step by step process for possible repair after removal of car stereo from dash.
Gently pry around edges of face plate and frame of car stereo.
Work around all edges, top, bottom and sides releasing locking clips.
Remove face plate from car stereo.
Remove all screws securing printed circuit board to face plate.
Gently remove printed circuit board from face plate, volume control knob will release with slight pressure.
Be sure all switch pad line up in their locations on face plate before reinstalling printed circuit board.
With a Control/Contact Cleaner, spray rheostat, rotate and repeat several times. (Repair #1)
(This rheostat is not accessible from the face of the stereo)

On opposite side of printed circuit board. Repair all solder connections, both top and bottom sides of two white connectors. (Repair #2)
