Car Stereo Installation
Needed Accessories from Metra
Kit 99-3300
Wire Harness 70-1858
Antenna Adaptor 40-GM10 |
There are other
kits from Metra and other manufacturers for these accessories. We prefer
this Metra kit. The finished look keeps the installed car stereo flush
with the dash. Other kits may have the face of the stereo extend out of
the dash up to two inches. This is type of installation kit is begging for
the stereo to be stolen. |
|
1.1) Splice Metra wire harness
to wire harness supplied with aftermarket stereo. In most cases, these
wires should match color for color. (Note - Negative speaker wires have a
black stripe, it is important to mate wires correctly. Incorrectly wired
speakers cause for loss of bass, out of phase speaker.) |
|
2.1) Cap any unused wires, most
times, depending on the aftermarket stereo this will be orange wires. |
|
3.1) Remove mounting sleeve from
box or from aftermarket stereo.
3.2) Lift tabs on each side of car stereo to release sleeve. |
|
4.1) Slide mounting sleeve off
back of car stereo. |
|
5.1) Using Metra kit, cut inside
mounting brackets from kit.
5.2) You may have to file these edges for a clean fit. |
|
6.1) Slide mounting sleeve into
face of kit. |
|
7.1) Push mounting sleeve in to
stop. |
|
8.1) With a flat head screw
driver, bend tabs on mounting sleeve to secure sleeve to kit. |
|
9.1) Slide aftermarket car
stereo into sleeve. |
|
10.1) Push car stereo into sleeve
to lock into place. |
|
11.1) Before mounting, because of
this kit, look into car stereo opening in dash. The original factory car
stereo does not have the same depth as an aftermarket stereo. |
|
12.1) With a hack saw, cut rear
bracket for mounting factor stereo. |
|
13.1) Remove cut portion of
factory mounting bracket, this will allow for enough depth for mounting
aftermarket car stereo. |
|
14.1) Connect antenna adaptor to
factory antenna connector. |
|
15.1) Use electrical tape to
secure this connection. In the future you will not loose stereo reception. |
|
16.1) Connect spliced wire
harness to factory harness. |
|
17.1) Connect aftermarket end of
connector into car stereo. |
|
18.1) Connect aftermarket end of
antenna into car stereo |
|
19.1) Guide wire harness and
antenna wire into dash while pushing car stereo into dash. |
|
20.1) Place car stereo into dash. |
|
21.1) Mount car stereo to dash. |
|
NOTE - This is the perfect
time to test car stereo before completing installation. Most times when
car stereo does not work, there is a blown fuse, there are two to operate
the stereo. |
|
22.1) When reinstalling dash
panel, pull Passenger Air Bag Switch connectors back through opening
before pushing dash panel back into place. Watch hazard light switch. |
|
23.1) With dash panel in place,
connect Passenger Air Bag Switch and snap into place. |
|
24.1) This installation keeps the
feature of stereo remaining on until door opens. |
