Toyota Matrix Front Speaker Removal and Replacement
	Toyota Matrix How to Remove Front Door Speaker and Tweeter
	1.1) Row window down. 1.2)Remove screw from hand hold pocket on arm rest.
	2.1) Grasp edge of hand hold pocket.
	3.1) Remove hand hold pocket and set to side.
	4.1) Gently pry edge of small cover from door open handle cavity. Cover will hinge open.
	5.1) Remove exposed screw.
	6.1) Gently pry top edge of control panel releasing clip. All clips release with pressure.
	7.1) Lift top edge of control panel away from door panel.
	8.1) Pull control panel up releasing rear latch.
	9.1) Bottom of control panel, at connector, release trigger on side of connector.
	10.1) With connector trigger released, outside sleeve on connector will lift up, pull up to stop.
	11.1) With connector sleeve up, this will release connector, remove control panel and set to side.
	12.1) Gently pry top edge of small trim panel at top leading edge of door panel releasing clip.
	13.1) Pull top edge of small trim panel away from door.
	14.1) Lift small trip panel up to remove and set to side.
	15.1) At bottom rear edge of door panel, gently pry panel from door releasing clips.
	16.1) Work across bottom and up front edge of door panel releasing clips.
	17.1) With clips released, pull bottom edge of door panel away from door.
	18.1) Check door open handle, be sure it clears through opening in door panel.
	19.1) Lift rear edge of door panel up out of window jam.
	20.1) Lift front edge of door panel up out of window jam, remove door panel and set to side.
	21.1) Check door for any remaining door panel clips.
	22.1) Gently pry clips from door to remove.
	23.1) Place clips into slot on door panel ready for reinstallation.
	24.1) Speakers are riveted to door. Drill rivets to remove speaker.
	25.1) Remove two screws at tweeter to remove.

	1.1) Row window down. 1.2)Remove screw from hand hold pocket on arm rest.
	2.1) Grasp edge of hand hold pocket.
	3.1) Remove hand hold pocket and set to side.
	4.1) Gently pry edge of small cover from door open handle cavity. Cover will hinge open.
	5.1) Remove exposed screw.
	6.1) At bottom rear edge of door panel, gently pry panel from door releasing clips.
	7.1) Work across bottom and up front edge of door panel releasing clips.
	8.1) With clips released, pull bottom edge of door panel away from door.
	9.1) Check door open handle, be sure it clears through opening in door panel.
	10.1) Lift rear edge of door panel up out of window jam.
	11.1) Lift front edge of door panel up out of window jam, remove door panel and set to side.
	12.1) Pull top edge of door panel back for access to rear of electric window switch. 12.2) Release trigger on connector to disconnect. Remove door panel and set to side.
	13.1) Check door for any remaining door panel clips.
	14.1) Gently pry clips from door to remove.
	15.1) Place clips into slot on door panel ready for reinstallation.
	16.1) Speakers are riveted to door. Drill rivets to remove speaker.

Car Radio Works with Intermittent or No Audio

We have seen this problem twice here at the shop. We troubleshot to a broken connector on the rear speaker. The rear speaker is accessible from the trunk.

One day, not realizing it, you may have packed your trunk full and broke the connector.

This causes the connection intermittently touches the metal frame of the speaker, most metal in the car is ground. Shorts the output on the stereo and shuts all audio off for protection.

We use electrical tape to insulate the connection and wire ties to hold the connector in place. Be careful not to apply too much pressure to the wire from the connector into the speaker. At the same time, giving this wire enough play to move with the movement of the speaker without touching metal.
