DO-IT-YOURSELF Repair LEXUS Climate Control

In many cases we have seen a bad display crystal and these steps will not help. If you can see your correct display with light shinning on it at the proper angle, these instructions will help. If your display is dark or discolored these instructions will be of little help. Presently researching the part numbers for replacement display crystal.

	Climate control missing lighting from push buttons and/or display. Follow removal instructions for Lexus car stereo. Remove four screws, two from each side securing climate control to stereo mounting bracket and remove for repair. 1) Remove two Phillips screws, one from each side of climate control.

	1) Release four clips, two on top, two on the bottom. 2) Remove escutcheon from climate control. Be careful to pull forward easily, allowing access to defective lamps. (You know this is about a $1000 unit new.) From our experience, we have found replacing all lamps at the same time is the best practice. The one you do not replace today because it works will be out tomorrow.

Display lamps (3) Push button back lamps (4)	1) All lamps require a 1/4 turn counter clockwise to release with a common screw driver. 2) Remove lamps and lamp base from socket. 3) Lamp legs may be unwrapped from base and removed, save green condoms from lamp and lamp bases. 4) Install new 12 volt lamps, wrapping legs around base in manner they were removed, place green condom on new lamp, 1/4 turn and your done.

Lexus ES300 Power Antenna Mast Removal and Installation Power antenna mast is available from your local dealership.
	1.1) With needle nose pliers, insert into slots on top nut of power antenna mount assembly, loosen and remove. Be careful not to slip, you will scratch the paint of your car.
	2.1) Turn car stereo on, pull antenna mast from motor assembly. 2.2) Measure length of new antenna mast and cable against length of old antenna mast and cable. If they match, skip to last instructions below, if they do not match, continue to step 7.
	3.1) From in side trunk, remove side panel pin from side panel cover.
	4.1) Remove side panel for access to power antenna. 4.2) Remove power antenna mounting screws/bolts. 4.3) Remove power antenna motor assembly and disconnect connectors.
	5.1) Disassemble power antenna motor assembly.
	6.1) Remove all excess power antenna mast cable pieces. 6.2) Re-assemble power antenna motor assembly. 6.3) Re-install into car.
	7.1) Insert power antenna mast cable into opening at top of antenna mast. 7.2) Turn car stereo off while feeding antenna mast cable into opening. 7.3) Install top mounting nut.

Symptom - Loss of volume Cause - Water damage, causing mute line to short and activate Needed tools - Corrosion chemical (spray) and brush
	1) Remove rear seat by pulling up on front edge of seat cushion. At the middle of each seated passenger. 2) Pull rear seat cushion forward releasing seat from seat belt mounts. NOTE - Disconnecting the orange connector and powering the stereo on will help determine if this is the problem. If your volume comes back, the factory pre-wired cell phone accessory "Mute" line is shorted.

	1) At front edge of rear drivers seat, you will notice two connectors. 2) Release trigger on connectors and remove. (Orange connector, pictured here), look closely, there is corrosion build up on the connector. 3) Spray, clean both male and female connectors with brush. NOTE - 1) Notice water under rear seat in this picture. NOTE - 2) Orange connector shows spots of corrosion.

* Also, this problem may be found in the trunk. 1) At the amplifier (Passenger side trunk panel) 2) Where the factory telephone may or may not be installed, behind side trunk panel on drivers side). CHECK CONNECTORS FOR CORROSION / WATER DAMAGE!
There is another problem with low volume that has come to our attention recently. If you have the factory installed cellular telephone disconnect it! See if volume returns.

Try disconnecting the car battery for several minutes then reconnect, this may reset the audio system.

Radio on with low or no volume could be car stereo or amplifier. This requires some troubleshooting on your part. Particularly on the '92 Nakamichi system, there is no amplifier in the trunk. Speakers will have low volume then be fine the next day, this is a stereo problem. We no longer repair this Nakamichi stereo.

Nakamichi - No audio from one or more speakers. This problem may be defective speakers with Nakamichi only.

We have seen very few of these amplifiers in shop in need of repair. Most times it is water damage because the passenger window is left down, this amplifier sits under the passenger seat. If this amplifier goes out, remove immediately. Remove the covers from the amplifier and take your hair dryer to the circuit boards. There is a good chance you will bring it back to life. Check the connections for water damage too.
