SEE DO IT YOURSELF TIPS AND REPAIR
The following is a list of common problems for Bose, Symphony Sound and Non-Bose Stereos.
Display remains on with ignition off. (May drain car battery).
One or more speakers do not work.
Weak speaker or speakers with
snap, crackle, pop, sound blown, distorted
or do not work? (Usually right front speaker first, for Bose system see amplifiers).
Tape stuck, will not accept tape, or tape auto reverses then ejects (Blaupunkt Cassette Mechanism).
No or intermittent power, defective On/Off Switch.
No or intermittent FM and/or AM.
Display stuck at 1:00 or 10:00 o'clock.
Back lights on front panel not fully lighting.
Radio static, no display? Does cigarette lighter, dome light, horn and door chimes work? No, check for blown fuse, some cases you may find a coin or metal object in the cigarette lighter or shorted dome light, otherwise repair is needed.
REPAIR - NO LONGER REPAIR.
DIY repair videos for specific problems for these stereos are being added to website. Links will be found here. In work.
Parts needed for some repairs are no longer available. Many cases these stereos can not be returned to 100%.
DIY Set Clock - ignition on, stereo off, push "Set". Use "Scan" for hours and "Seek" for minutes.
Corvette Bose Audio Intermittent or
Static with Treble and Bass Slide Controls
Speakers cut in and out intermittently, treble/bass controls
have static when adjusting.
Adjusting treble/bass slide
controls can cause speakers to go in and out with static.
This is a simple DIY Repair.
Radio Shack sells a "Control Cleaner" with lubricant. Push slide controls
down. Spray into top of slide control opening and move slide control up
and down to clean and lubricate.
NOTE - This model Corvette, 85 to 88 1/2
rarely has a Bose amplifier problem. If cleaning the treble/bass controls
does not take care of speaker problems, see How to
Troubleshoot Your Corvette Bose System.
Matsushita / Panasonic Repair Jammed 6 CD Mechanism
These instructions apply
specifically to model number 10367041. Although most AC controls are
similar. You may be able to recognize the problems with other AC controls
by giving them a good visual inspection.
1.1) Remove both knobs from
face of AC Control.
2.1) From back of AC Control,
remove four screws.
3.1) Remove front panel from
AC control.
4.1) Lift display and printed
circuit board from back cover.
5.1) Display printed circuit
board is attached by wire harness. Lay front panel toward top.
6.1) Locate two sets of two
rows of solder connections. This is where the main connectors from the
factory wire harness attach.
7.1) Re-solder both sets of two
rows of connections.
Note - With the
pressure supplied to these connectors from the factory wire harness and
the continuous vibration from the vehicle, these solder connections become
broken or have poor connections.
Chevrolet 6 CD Changer
CD changer jammed, will not play
CD's, or will not accept or eject CD's, repair rate $295. However, before thinking of repair, disconnect one of the main car battery terminals for several minutes then reconnect. This can act as a "Reset" and may bring the changer back to working. Otherwise, this is a repair issue.

Use a small common screw driver to release tab on all locks around face of
car stereo by lifting center of tabs up.
One tab, on side of car stereo is a lift of entire tab.
Gently pull face plate from stereo, there is a ribbon cable connected to
front display board. It is important that front face plate is removed
straight off of car stereo frame. When reinstalling face plate, face plate
must be installed straight onto frame of stereo so connection pins are not
bent.
When snapping face plate back into radio, this display lamp circuit board
fits into a slotted attachment to the top of the case of the stereo (Slot
is shown in next picture). Be sure circuit board fits into slot.
Not aligning printed circuit board to notch will result in shorting this
circuit board and burn circuit and components.
With small common screw driver or needle nose pliers twist lamp to
release. In some cases, this lamp is slightly soldered to the circuit
board. Apply pressure to remove lamp.
Install new lamp and assemble.
I have the luxury of a test bench to verify a working display. You will
have to reinstall car stereo into dash to check.
